All That Glitters

Hello and happy thanksgiving to all the Americans tuning in.  Hopefully you are all sitting down to a wonderful turkey dinner and enjoying yourself with family and friends.

Here in the land of oz we are suffering through strange weather, varying from 95 degrees to powerful thunderstorms and rain.

I am currently working on some wonderful glittery angels, featuring the use optional Angelina Film.  If you have seen Angelina Fibres, the fibres are made of sheets of Angelina flim.  It comes in many colours, but constantly gives an irridicent, glittery look on plain embroidery.  The youngest of my children, who suffers from Autism Specturm Disorder looked at these angels and pronounced them beautiful (from a child who rarely speaks).

I hope to have these angels ready in the next 2 weeks, and plan on putting one on the top of my christmas tree.

You can see a sample of these angels on the other side of the blog.

Blanket Inspiration

I was fortunate today to have a wonderful class down in Warragul (Victoria, Australia).  As a class we worked on machine embroidered handbags, and tossed around ideas for classes in 2010.

I was inspired with the hand embroidery book published by Country Bumpkin, and am looking at ways to create magnificent machine embroidered blankets.

If you love beautiful blankets - check out this link for the Country Bumpkin book

I have also just managed to upgrade my computer from my old laptop to the sexy new laptop that I purchased in the US.  I am having a little trouble with e-mail at the moment, so if I seem slow in responding, please forgive me.

New Golfing Designs

Teeing Off is a new collection of golfing designs, in the popular sketch stitch style. With 20 designs and 5 golfing sayings, any golfer would love these designs.

Check out all the designs in the collection at the bottom of this page.

Setting up the workroon

I am back to work, and spent today setting up my work room - ready for stitching again.

As I sit here tonight, I am listening to two machines stitch out, and getting ready to start up another machine.

I had to re-set my workroom after my wonderful sister-in-law set it up as a bedroom whilst I was away, so things are now put back in place, and ready to go.

First up is working on a set of geometric designs (see sample right), these designs are for a 4x4 hoop, and will be the next set I release.

Back in the land Downunder

Just arrived last night back into Melbourne, Australia.

I actually arrived in Australia on Thursday, but immediately went up to Cairns (North Queensland) for an Embroidery and patchwork conference, run by Kays Fabrics in Cairns. We had a great time, and met many passionate embroiders.

As soon as I got home, hubby took me up to my mother in law's house so that we could collect the kids (he had a camping trip for the weekend, so the kids wern't here). I have had lots of lovely hugs, and plenty of love yous coming my way.

I have begun unpacking my bags from the US, and cannot wait to get back to the drawing board. I found some great fabrics, a few new products, and heaps of inspiration.

Stay posted for heaps of new stuff coming out.

Columbus - Indiana - USA

Hello all. Here I am on the last stop of my US road trip, in Columbus Indiana. I have learnt a lot of new things on this trip, not the least of how to drive on the opposite side of the road to how I was trained.

Houston Quilt Festival/Market was amazing. 20 rows, each 60 booths long full of people passionate about crafting. I found some amazing new techniques that I am looking forward to implementing, as well as metting many wonderful people.

Over the next week I will be teaching at the Indiana Embroidery Conference, showing the wonderful stumpwork frangipani flower technique.

Whilst I have been over here, I have been working on some new designs that I am looking forward to bringing you, including Sketch Stitch African Animals, Redwork Birdies, feathers, candy cane holders, and some great applique designs.
Welcome to the Julie Hall Designs blog page. Here you will find interesting ideas for using my machine embroidery designs, as well as notifications of new designs, and opportunities to assist with design testing. Sit down, read a while, and enjoy the posts.
